The Permanent Account Number (PAN) card, a unique ten-digit alphanumeric code issued by the Indian Tax Department in the form of a laminated card, is a vital document for Indian citizens, serving both tax-related purposes and as a form of identity proof.
Rectifying any discrepancies in the name registered on your PAN card can be done through online or offline channels. Here’s a guide on how to change or correct your name on your PAN card:
Online Method:
- Open a web browser and visit https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html.
- Select “Apply Online” and then choose “Changes or correction in existing PAN Data/ Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in existing PAN data).”
- Select “Individual” under Category and provide the required details, including last name/surname, first name, date of birth, email ID, citizenship status, and PAN number.
- Agree to the information statement and enter the displayed Captcha code before clicking “Submit.”
- Upon form completion, you’ll receive a confirmation message with a Token Number sent to your email.
- Click “Continue with PAN Application Form” to proceed, following on-screen instructions. If necessary, update the photo or signature by selecting ‘Photo Mismatch’ or ‘Signature Mismatch’.
Once all details are filled and payment is made, an acknowledgment slip will be generated. Print and send it with physical proof of documents to the NSDL e-Gov office.
Offline Method:
- Download the Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN Data Form.
- Fill out all mandatory fields in the form completely.
- Attach supporting documents such as identity proof, address proof, and passport-size photographs.
- Submit the completed form to the nearest NSDL collection center.
- Pay the applicable charges for PAN card update or correction offline. Upon payment, you’ll receive a 15-digit acknowledgment number to track your PAN Card application status.
By following these steps, you can effectively correct or change the name on your PAN card, ensuring accuracy and compliance with official regulations.
