Misplaced Your PAN Card? Take Immediate Action with These Steps

The PAN card holds immense importance for Indian citizens, functioning as a 10-digit alpha-numeric code issued by the Income Tax Department under the supervision of the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Applicants have the ability to monitor their PAN card status through an online platform.

In the event of loss, obtaining a duplicate PAN card involves the submission of the “Request for New PAN Card or/ and Changes or Correction in PAN Data” form, accompanied by a copy of the FIR.

PAN card holders can also procure an instant e-PAN or digital version online via the income tax department’s website.

For the online application of a duplicate PAN card, adhere to the following steps:

  1. Visit the official website tin-nsdl.com.
  2. On the homepage, click on ‘Services’ and select ‘PAN,’ leading to a new webpage.
  3. Scroll down, locate ‘Reprint of PAN card,’ and click ‘Apply.’
  4. Complete the ‘Online PAN Application’ form.
  5. Under ‘Application type,’ opt for ‘Changes or correction in existing PAN data/ Reprint of PAN card (No changes in existing PAN Data).’
  6. Choose the applicable Category.
  7. Fill in the required details and submit the form.
  8. After submission, take note of the Token Number for future reference and click ‘Continue with the PAN Application Form.’
  9. Complete the sections for ‘Personal details,’ ‘Contact & other details,’ and ‘Document details.’ Submit the form.

Note: You’ll be redirected to the payment page. Once the payment is made, check the duplicate PAN card status using the 15-digit acknowledgement number generated during the application.

To track the PAN application through the Acknowledgement Number:

  1. Visit the TIN – NSDL PAN Card Tracking Portal.
  2. In the ‘Application Type,’ select ‘PAN-New/Change Request.’
  3. Enter the “Acknowledgement Number” and the security code.
  4. Click ‘Submit’ to check the status of your PAN card application.

After the generation or reprinting of the PAN card, it is dispatched to the provided address. The consignment number, available in the application status, facilitates tracking and is typically delivered within 15 days. Once dispatched, the Speed Post Consignment number is updated on tracking portals.
