Applying for Aadhaar Card for Children Under 5: An 8-Step Guide

Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number, is issued by the Government of India to its citizens based on their biometric and demographic data collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). While Aadhaar was initially considered voluntary by the Supreme Court, it has become essential for accessing various government benefits and services, serving as a universal identification document across India. While adults primarily use Aadhaar for various services and identification purposes, the government also issues this unique ID to minors, including children under the age of five.

If you’re considering obtaining an Aadhaar card for your child, here are eight simple steps to guide you through the enrollment process:

Step 1: Visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. You can locate the nearest enrolment center by visiting the official UIDAI website.

Step 2: Fill out the Aadhaar Enrolment Form and mention your Aadhaar number on the form.

Step 3: For enrolling children below 5 years of age, you’ll need the Aadhaar details of either the mother or the father. Fill in the relevant information.

Step 4: Your child’s photograph will be taken at the enrollment center.

Step 5: Complete the address and other demographic details using the Aadhaar card information of the parent whose Aadhaar details were submitted in step 3.

Step 6: Submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate or a discharge certificate from the hospital.

Step 7: The Aadhaar executive will provide you with an acknowledgement slip that contains the enrolment number.

Step 8: You can use the enrolment number to check the status of Aadhaar card generation.

That’s it! You have successfully enrolled your child for Aadhaar services. Once the application is processed, you can download a digital copy of your child’s Aadhaar card from the official UIDAI website.

Please note that for children below 5 years of age, no biometric data is collected. Instead, the Aadhaar ID is generated using the photographs and demographic data provided from the parents’ Aadhaar details. However, biometric data is required for enrolling children above 5 years of age.
