The West Bengal state government initiated the Gatidhara Scheme. The scheme was established in August of 2014. Also The program was initially launched by the labor department, but it was later reinstituted by the transport department. Through the employment of registered unemployed youth in the transportation industry, the program has been launched to assist the automotive industry in both urban and rural areas. The scheme is implemented by WBTIDCL.
Objective of Gatidhara Scheme
The objective of Gatidhara Scheme is to provide a subsidy to a beneficiary for the purchase of any commercial vehicle. The subsidy rate is 30% of the vehicle’s ex-showroom price, up to a maximum of Rs. 1 lac.
Eligibility criteria of Gatidhara Scheme:
- The candidate should be a resident of West Bengal.
- Enrolment in the Employment Bank of the Labour Department, GOWB
- Family income: not more than Rs 25,000 per month More than one member of the same family is not eligible.
- The age limit of the applicant should be between 20 to 45 years of age. Relaxation of the upper age limit is available for the SC, ST and OBC candidates up to five and three years respectively.
- The candidate should possess a valid commercial driving license.
- Only one member from a family is applicable for a subsidy.
- Applicants who have availed a loan under BSKP, USKP or any other scheme are also eligible for this scheme.
- Candidates who receive the benefits under Yuvashree are also eligible, which includes termination of the allowance as soon as the bank loan is disbursed.
How to apply:
Vehicle dealers are authorized facilitators for the Gatidhara Scheme. The applicant should have his application, along with all necessary documents, processed by the dealer of his choice. Choose a financier for the loan needed to purchase the vehicle. The vehicle must be registered within one month of receiving the offer letter for the permit and subsidy under the scheme.
What is the maximum subsidy under the Gatidhara scheme?
The rate of subsidy is 30% of the ex-showroom price of the vehicle, subject to a maximum of Rs. 1 lac. The total fund allotted for the scheme is Rs. 52.01 crore.

- The State Government financially supports the applicant by granting a subsidy of 30% of the project cost provided that it confines to Rs.1,00,000
- The bank approves the entrepreneur a term loan of 65% of the project cost
- The applicant should contribute the remaining 5% of the project cost as margin money

Benefit of the Scheme:
- Unemployed youths will be able to buy vehicles commercially under this scheme. By doing so, they will be able to make a living in an easy and pious way.
- Under this scheme, the State Government of West Bengal will provide a subsidy of up to 30 percent, which means that the State Government will provide 30 percent of the total cost of purchasing commercial vehicles
