S23 Ultra Specifications

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra remains true to its ‘Ultra’ name in terms of its size. Although it still exudes an expensive look and feel, the phone has put on some weight (234g compared to 228g) from last year’s model, although the difference is hardly noticeable. Despite being a tad heavier, it is still lighter than an iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, the phone seems more robust, thanks to its flatter sides and broader metal frame. This gives it a rectangular shape with rounded corners, rather than the pill-shaped appearance from the top and bottom. Despite the added thickness, the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s refreshed design provides a more comprehensive and flatter surface on all sides, making it quite comfortable to hold and improving the grip.

It is a combination of metal and glass design, it now utilizes Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, which is expected to provide better protection in the event of a fall, while the mid-frame is still made of aluminum. Despite this update, Samsung has retained the phone’s IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, which is already among the highest in the market.

Display

In terms of display technology, Samsung is the market leader, so it should come as no surprise that the S23 Ultra’s screen looks exquisite, the same as its previous year model Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra from Samsung boasts a stunning 6.8-inch curved display with 1750 nits peak brightness that is truly a sight to behold. The dynamic AMOLED 2X display makes the most of the vast screen space, showcasing everything in a beautiful and vivid way. Featuring a resolution of 3088 x 1440 (Quad HD+) and the same LTPO technology for variable refresh rate that goes from 1Hz to 120Hz.

What’s new is that the screen can get very dim, which is perfect for night time use., and with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, the phone delivers an exceptional experience when it comes to gaming, watching media, or even checking office emails. The screen is incredibly sharp, and the colors are both vivid and true-to-life. One of the new features is that it can get very dim at night, which makes it perfect for use at night.

Camera

The camera has always been a standout feature of Samsung’s Ultra line, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra is no exception. The smartphone boasts a 200-megapixel primary wide-angle camera that takes stunning images, with excellent detail, color accuracy, and dynamic range. The phone also features dual telephoto lenses with 3x and 10x optical zoom each, and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera. Samsung has also made improvements to the optical image stabilization (OIS) by doubling the range of motion, which results in much steadier video recording and better camera performance in low-light settings. RAW shooting capability is also included, which works not only for the rear cameras but also with the front-facing camera. In addition, there’s an Astrophotography mode in the Expert RAW app that enables users to capture star trails and starry skies. However, the most exciting, yet controversial feature is the 100x space zoom that allows users to capture shots of the moon. However, some have raised concerns that Samsung is using heavy AI post-processing to provide users with the perfect shot of the moon, as a Reddit user has claimed.

Performance

Throughout the Galaxy S line, Samsung has consistently utilized top-of-the-line components. The S23 Ultra not only features the latest technology from Qualcomm, but also boasts exclusive customizations that set it apart from other devices. Dubbed the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, this impressive chipset has been fine-tuned specifically for the S23, providing exceptional performance. Additionally, the smartphone’s AI capabilities have been integrated with this chip, offering a wealth of features. With its generous 12GB RAM, the device can handle all applications and games with ease, and its memory and storage are both impressively fast, utilizing the LPDDR5X specification for RAM and UFS 4.0 for internal storage. Despite sharing the same 5,000mAh battery as its two predecessors, the S23 Ultra can last even longer, making it a reliable choice for long-term usage.
