AMRIT DHAROHAR SCHEME IS LAUNCHED TO PROMOTE VALUES OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN CONSERVING WETLAND ECOSYSTEM

“India is moving forward firmly for the ‘panchamrit’ and net-zero carbon emission by 2070 to usher in green industrial and economic transition.”, the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, said while presenting the Union Budget 2023-24 in Parliament. Highlighting the vision for “LiFE”, or Lifestyle for Environment, aimed at spurring a movement of environmentally conscious lifestyle, Finance Minister added that the budget builds on our focus on ‘Green Growth’, which will guide us through the Amrit Kaal.

The Amrit Dharohar programme will assist India in achieving the SDGs. Wetlands, according to the GoI, are crucial to maintaining biodiversity. In 2014, there were just 26 Ramsar sites in India. The number was raised to 75. An international agreement to protect wetlands is called the RAMSAR convention.

Objectives of  Amrit Dharohar Scheme

To achieve 2030 sustainable development goals. These goals were adopted by India along with other UN Members in 2015. The SDG aims to provide peace and prosperity. The Amrit Dharohar scheme will help India achieve the sustainable development goals (SDG goals).

Key Elements of Amrit Dharohar Scheme

  • Within the next three years, the plan is to be put into action.
  • The plan will assist the local residents generate more revenue while also increasing ecotourism and carbon stocks.

Eligibility Criteria for Amrit Dharohar Scheme 

The eligibility criteria for the Amrit Dharohar scheme are as follows: 

  • Artisans, craftsmen, and other stakeholders involved in the preservation and promotion of traditional Indian art and crafts are eligible to apply for financial assistance under the scheme 
  • Local communities living in and around wetlands designated as Ramsar sites are eligible to participate in the scheme 
  • Non-profit organisations and NGOs working in the field of conservation of wetlands and traditional art and crafts are also eligible to apply for financial assistance under the scheme .
  • The scheme is open to individuals and organisations across India, and there are no state-wise restrictions 
  • Applicants must provide proof of their involvement in the preservation and promotion of traditional art and crafts or the conservation of wetlands 
  • Applicants must have a Bank account in their name to receive the financial assistance provided under the scheme The scheme is implemented over the next three years, and the applicants must submit their proposals for financial assistance within the given timeline. 

Application Procedure for Amrit Dharohar Scheme 

The application procedure for the Amrit Dharohar scheme is as follows: 

  • The scheme is implemented over the next three years, and interested applicants must submit their proposals for financial assistance within the given timeline 
  • Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive project proposal that outlines the project objective, scope, expected outcomes, budget requirements, and implementation plan. 
  • The proposed project must either focus on the preservation and promotion of traditional Indian art and crafts or the conservation of wetlands Additionally, the project proposal should emphasize the active involvement of local communities in the project and highlight their unique conservation values .
  • The proposal must be submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, either through an online portal or in hard copy The proposals will be evaluated by a selection committee, and the successful applicants will be informed about the grant amount awarded for their project 
  • The grant amount will be provided in installments, depending on the progress of the project 
  • The successful applicants must maintain proper records of the project expenditure and submit regular progress reports to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
