The Pradhan Mantri GOBAR-Dhan Yojana (which is the acronym for Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan) was started on 01 February/April 2018 by the Government of India as a national programme priority under Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin-Phase II. to promote cleanliness in the village as well as to increase the income of the farmers. The tagline of this project is WASTE TO WEALTH.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman IN HER BUDHET SPEECH ON 01 FBRUARY, 2023 announced the PM GOBAR-Dhan Yojana scheme 2023 for promoting the circular economy with a total investment of Rs 10,000 crore. Presenting the Union Budget for 2023-24, she also said the government will facilitate 1 crore farmers to adopt natural farming.
The Union Jal Shakti Ministry has recently launched a unified portal on the ‘Gobardhan’ scheme. The portal aims to monitor the progress made under the scheme. The Gobardhan scheme was launched by the Government of India to manage cattle and biodegradable waste and also help enhance farmers’ income.
Although, it has been almost 4 to 5 years since this scheme was implemented there are many farmers who do not have knowledge about this scheme so they do not get the benefits of this scheme.
Objective of PM GOBAR-Dhan Yojana-
In most of the villages of India, the farmers generally do animal husbandry with cows, buffellowes, goats etc along with farming. So a large amount of cow dung is produced daily by all these animals and farmers throw off the cow dung at a certain place, due to which a lot of dirt spreads.
In view of this, the Indian Government has started the Pradhan Mantri Gobar Dhan Yojana to remove this dirt as well as to benefit the farmers. Also by execution of the scheme, the purpose of Swachh Bharat Mission will also be fulfilled, because the government plans to use the cow dung collected by the farmers under the scheme to manufacture biogas, organic manure and CNG, which will lead to cleanliness in the village and also to the farmer.
Benefit and Features of PM GOBAR-Dhan Yojana–
- Cow dung will be procured from the farmers under PM GOBAR-Dhan Yojana.
- The cow dung collected will be used to manufacture CNG and biogas.
- In return for purchasing cow dung, the government will also give money to The farmers who will get monetary benefits by selling the cow dung to the authorities.
- The government will also be able to generate revenue by selling ready CNG and biogas.
- Due to this scheme of the government, there will be an increase in cleanliness in the rural areas of India, due to which mosquitoes will be less and the possibility of diseases like malaria will also decrease.
- The farmers do not have to face much trouble while availing the benefits of the scheme as online application process by the government has been kept in this scheme
- 60% money will be provided by the central government for the scheme and 40% money will be provided by the state government for the scheme.
- Under the scheme, cow dung gas plants will be established in rural areas at community, individual, self-help groups, Gaushala, NGO level.
- Under the scheme cow dung, straw, leaves etc. will be composted and biogas will be manufactured.
