Meta has recently introduced several new features to WhatsApp, enhancing its status as a versatile cross-platform messaging and calling application. However, one of these additions, the WhatsApp Channels feature, has garnered substantial criticism for seemingly transforming WhatsApp into another social media platform.
The WhatsApp Channels feature enables users to follow their favorite celebrities and news portals to receive the latest updates without the need to share personal information like phone numbers. Currently, there is no straightforward method to opt out of this feature, and Meta is in the process of rolling it out to both Android and iOS devices.
For individuals who find little value in the WhatsApp Channels feature and wish to reduce distractions, there are a couple of approaches to consider:
- Using an Older Version of WhatsApp: If you have not updated WhatsApp to the latest version, you can continue using an older version that does not include the Channels feature. On Android, if you have already updated the app, you can back up your chats, uninstall the newer version, and install the older version. Ensure that you download the APK from a legitimate source to avoid security risks.
- Hiding Channels within the Updates Tab: Alternatively, if you prefer not to revert to an older version of WhatsApp, you can use a workaround to hide the Channels feature. It’s important to note that this method does not remove the feature but conceals it within the Updates tab on WhatsApp. Follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Click on the “Updates” tab.
- Select “View Updates.”
This action will move the Channels feature to the bottom of the page. If you have a sufficient number of status updates on WhatsApp, this should effectively hide the Channels section. Keep in mind that closing and reopening WhatsApp will reset this setting, so you may need to repeat the process periodically to keep Channels hidden on WhatsApp.
